Lister HB2 shim = broken. New shim or liquid seal ok?
« on: March 31, 2025, 05:19:11 PM »
Hello, I have been working on my lister HB2 for my boat and taken it apart. Now I see in the engine manual cylinder head shim part no: 351-10370. It says number per engine “As required”.

How can I tell if it is required to add shims? When I got the heads off there were only one shim per cylinder. I wanted to clean and put it back together and do got myself some reinsozil to seal and prevent noise and smoke coming out.there is the thick metal ring (I think this is the gasket am I right?) which was on top of the metal shim.. also does anyone know what material shims are made of? I do have some .1mm copper foil laying around but hard to cut to the precise size(I want to cut the foil for underneath the cylinders I think it’s good for that as that’s copper as well I believe).

So anyone here who can help me with this?  :)

Also where can I apply the reinsozil sealant? On top of the thick metal ring? Also underneath the metal ring? And underneath the cilinder as well?

Thanks in advance for the advice and any information!

You have to measure the bump clearance to determine the thickness of shims required. When fitting the shims you put them into the head recess first and finish with the head gasket (the thicker steel ring). You use grease to hold them all in place when fitting.
