Re: Lister CD - New life, from grain thresher to show off piece. More bits

Gentles,

Sorting bits, pulling pulley out.

I noticed that IP rocker shaft is worn, rocker roller pin also.

This engine got to have thousands of houres working. Take a look at the IP rocker and see the callus of the rocker spring.

A few pics to the show.

Re: Lister CD - New life, from grain thresher to show off piece. Bosch Lab
« Reply #16 on: February 12, 2025, 10:59:50 PM »
Gentles,

IP and injector are at Bosch Lab to put on spec. Make new visit to chat with my friend Mr. Faria (40+ years in company. Start at 13).

Lab at end of day - and only Mr. Faria there to plan next day tasks - and you can see the pic of lab. Pristine... it's the last task daily performed by their coworkers.

Another surprise... pedestal of CD was cast at 29SET1950. What a hell???

Nevertheless, found a nail in the tappet shoulder... What a hell, how did it get there???

3 pics to help context.

Re: Lister CD - New life, from grain thresher to show off piece. Flys off
« Reply #17 on: February 12, 2025, 11:29:08 PM »
Gentles,

Manage to take off #2 fly.

Propane torch to heat, snake oil on keyway (key is mild steel, in hard cast iron), put wedge on tension, and bang the pine log by the fly rim, aka ring the bell, to vibrate metals.

Payed the patience.

Fly #1 is under tension, after heat. Hope the best...

More a few pics.

Re: Lister CD - New life, from grain thresher to show off piece. #2 fly off
« Reply #18 on: February 13, 2025, 07:29:41 PM »
Gentles,

#1 fly came off before diner.

Same MO: heat, snake oil, wedge under tension, and the trusty wood log banging the rim of the fly.

This time got to vise-grip the wedge in low corner of the key. This one is kinda fragile.

First sign of success, the wedge fell down with the n-th bang of the log. After that repeat all process till hammer doesnt bell on the wedge.

Another step well done.

A few pics to the show.

Re: Lister CD - New life, from grain thresher to show off piece. Fuel filter
« Reply #19 on: February 15, 2025, 08:37:08 PM »
Gentles,

Fuel filter is done. Said before fuel filter will be done with spares I got kicking around (https://listerengine.com/smf/index.php?topic=9980.msg112931#msg112931).

Only need a reducing socket to match wick nipple to filter. Toke visit to my neighbour machinist to made it. He was with temper but made it as I needed (And the SOB pelled 10€ from my wallet!).

A few pics to the enthusiasts.

Cheers

PS: nipple was given by 12/2 Lister.

Gentles,

Flys are down, and start to open crankcase.

Main bushes are babbit metal. At first glance they are in good shape, maybe some wear. Crank journals show the hard life of thousands of hours.

Another odd is the crankcase end cover  cast is dated from 23/NOV/1951.

The main bearing of the end cover can be pulled out too easy.

Manage to push out the cam shaft gear wheel taper pin. Got to work around to find the way of taper, because it has been drived in and grinded to face.

Water manifolds got a good warm to loose fittings.

A few pics to the show.

Gentles,

Started do note measures about wearing to see how bad thing can go.

Already told outer #1 bushing  - that I suspect it spun inside crankcase end cover. See dimensions at pics 1 and 2.

Pic 3 and 4 the #2 outer bushing and crank journal.

And 5 and 6 the the #1 bushing ID and crank journal.

Cam shaft is out, but stupidity stoke again.

Forgot the gear wheel have taper pin AND woodruff key. So hammer drove woodruff key agaist cam bushing.

2 pics to remember.

Meanwhile exhaust is clean and painted, fuel tank dents are straightened, and rings out of piston.

PS: DAMN AUTOROTATE!

For what it's worth....there IS no "autorotate" setting anywhere in SMF... (see screenshot)

The ONLY possible thing I can think is that the "Resize images when showing under posts" option is causing it. I can experimentally turn that off, if you like? Not sure what effect it'll have elsewhere though...
Cheers!

Just FYI, in my browser(Chrome on an Android tablet) when reading a post with the tablet in both portrait and landscape orientation most pictures show as landscape thumbnails but when I click to enlarge the picture they do sometimes change orientation once enlarged. It may have something to do with the orientation of the camera when the picture was taken assuming it is a phone camera.

PS: DAMN AUTOROTATE!

VP, What orientation are you holding your camera when taking pictures? Portrait, Landscape, or a mix of the 2? I believe there is some metadata encoded in the photo to let other devices know the intended orientation that could have something to do with it.

Gentles, AdeV

Many thanks for your replays.

When I say autorotate it can be anything that the software used manipulates an image to change original post.

AdeV, I underline I got the most respect to you and the outstanding work you do supporting this forum - Peter & Rita Forbes just disappear because there was no redundancy.

You can see my all images got 800px max wide, in order to to avoid any horizontal scrolling.

Yes, please disable the resize, because when image "rotates" the detail of image will be harder to get after reading the sentence that pin points it.

Bronco, my images are all edited before upload - there is none upload raw, neither the attachments allow such size.

Just my 5 cents for the improvement.

Cheers

Yes, please disable the resize, because when image "rotates" the detail of image will be harder to get after reading the sentence that pin points it.

I'll give it a try tomorrow, I'll post here when it's off & you can try some pictures.

One thing to note... the thing that usually determines the orientation of a camera image is called the EXIF data; this is present in both raw AND jpg images from a camera (or camera phone). There are tools out there that can read it. Again, tomorrow, I'll have a peek at one of your pictures to see if the EXIF data is still present. Note that some image editors actually preserve this data, so just because you re-sized it, doesn't guarantee it's no longer present. Ask me how I know this!!

Cheers!

...I couldn't wait, I just checked one of your pictures now (the fuel tank, which appears upright in the thumbnail, but expands to be horizontal...

See the attached screen shot showing some of the EXIF data; in particular, the image width/height, which indicate it should be shown horizontally.... I'm guessing that's not what you had in mind?
Cheers!
