Listerpetter 2 cylinder engine not starting
« on: November 25, 2024, 02:27:53 PM »
OK so bought a 2 1/2 ton dumper with a 2 cylinder engine. Although it started on collecting -bit lazy but although initial puff of black smoke then ran OK with an acceptable amount of white. 24 hours later wont even fire up with a bit of "easy start" . Nothing. Would have expected a reaction with the ether but nothing. Had bought it with a view to probably having to rebuild but wonted to at least give it a bit of work to ascertain all the faults. All advice gratefully received including any tips on a top end rebuild.

It is not likely that the engine wore itself out sitting over night. It is possible that carbon has lossened and sticking on the seats causing low compression. It is also possible you have a fuel problem. Are you getting white smoke while cranking? If not you have a fuel problem which goes along with it not firing on easy start.
Collector and horder of about anything diesel

Interestingly a quick "tug" with a tractor. Started instantly. Need to check battery/starter motor connections. I believe just not turning over quick enough.
