Leaking from this hole, anyone know what I'm looking at?
« on: October 03, 2024, 12:36:59 AM »
Thanks for any help.  Haven't been on here in forever, but my sister's GM90 overheated and I'm 100 miles away from her now. It is dumping water from the head from a hole just under the injector.  Not sure if this was a freeze plug, it wasn't frozen for sure.  I just can't remember what this hole was.

I built this long ago and it got them through most of the hurricane flooding.

Definitely looks like a well for a freeze plug.

As far as I know, the GM90's have freeze plugs at the TOP of the head...like in the oil galley area.  I've had one come out before.  I was easily able to find a replacement from NAPA.

Replacement is simple, but I DO use 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive to "help" it stay in there.  Just find the appropriate socket that'll "back up" that disk, and tap it in place, with some super weatherstrip adhesive on the back side....just to make sure it doesn't leak.

My 6/1 starto engine has freeze plugs in the top of the head. I had to replace them because one was a bit rusted out from inside.
It was hard to find thee right size/type.
