SL4 SL rack
« on: September 20, 2024, 02:21:01 AM »
I'm looking to get a sl4 going ...

Iv discovered that there was no fuel or oil filters ... taken care of ... case oil canister still leaking -- no worries

Shouldn't the rack be movable when not running? Mine seems stuck

I can twist the rack in all 4 fuel injection pumps ... but I don't think it's loose when it crosses over from the front two to the rear two ...
The rack certainly does not move left to right

Can't seem to attach another picture

Is there a video or pictures of the working centrifugal weights governor.
I take it that when not running the weights will not move by hand ... ?

Right now the rack moves about 1/32" side to side ...
If a injector rack was stuck , how much movement would I expect?

Time to take the camshaft cover off and check whether the bob weights move freely

The weights are not froze ... and spin round round with starter running ... but with rack froze I can't move them like centrifugal force would

Now iv done it ....
I dropped the bit that goes between the weights button and the rack ... down into the motor ....
Guess once the rack is freed up ... ill need to drain the oil , lay on its side and take the pan off ....
Any easy way down in there?

Drain the  oil and try a magnet on a stick.   Sounds like the sleeves are seized in the pumps a soak in diesel might help

I made a magnet on a nonferrous wire ... success!!!
Getting the dropped bit out of the motor. Part fell about 3.5" down so I guess it was resting on a gear ....

How do you align the rack couplers and the rack when tightening down to not bind on the rack?

Iv got all the pumps freed up ... hope the pin in the middle don't have an orientation besides the slotted cup in the lower section
