Date Of Manufacture
« on: July 21, 2024, 05:03:32 AM »
I am in Durban South Africa and we recovered an old water pump out of our local Nature Conservancy because we wish to clean it up and display it as a historical item in a Public Space with HOPEFULLY a backstory. It was clearly used to draw water from the valley stream at some point in the past before our area became developed and many small farms were in the area. Please advise possible date of manufacture - the Plate says No 197021 SPEC 28 F 2H.

TIA

I suggest you post some pictures of the setup.  I'm assuming the serial plate mentioned is on the pump, and not the engine that drives it.  Is there an engine too?  There were thousands of Lister based pumps and generators in SA in the old days, at police stations, forestry stations, government buildings and of course, farms

Hi Greg,

The plate would appear to belong to a Lister "D" type engine. I'm no expert with this type, so I can't help with the spec.

The serial number, though, says it was made in 1945.
Cheers!
Ade.
