ST1 not stopping when solenoid deactivated.

Hi, I have an ST1 genset that is started on demand from an inverter when the batteries need charging. The starting works fine but when the batteries are charged and the inverter deactivates the solenoid the ST1 still chugs along very slowly and weakly.
Finger pressure on the Stop valve will force stopping so I am thinking their is an adjustment to be made. Been ruiing OK for 5 years with minor issues all fixed.
I have a manual but can find no reference to a solenoid and the stop valve references are confusing.
I am reluctant to undo any screws on the stop valve shaft to try to turn it to go fully off as there might be a spring inside that will rotate the shaft requiring a big job. I had something like that happen on a chinese diesel.
Any suggestions on what to do to get the solenoid to pull the stop vavle properly closed?

Hi Beaka, I owned and ran an ST2 Startomatic for many years. I am guessing that your fuel shut off solenoid is the same as on my SOM. The governor, governor spring, injector pump rack and linkages are all internal and get lubricated with sump oil so they wear very slowly.
The fuel control solenoid and it`s linkages are all external so they wear much faster because very few people bother to lubricate them. These can easily be adjusted to shorten or lengthen the linkage as required. Another issue with these old solenoids is that they get filled with dust,rust and other detritus that prevents them from achieving their full travel. Adjusting the external linkages is nothing to be afraid of. A couple of pics attached.
