Flywheel trying to come off??
« on: December 21, 2023, 07:55:21 PM »
So, I had a couple of good 5-hour runs the last couple of days and as I was shutting down I heard a strange squeak and thought I would investigate today thinking maybe something was a little loose in my Foundation or something needed a little more oil. Oil and splash system look great, everything looks Rock Solid and then I suddenly noticed that one of the flywheel Keys was about an inch out. In My Memory these things have been practically rested in place for years. Why would a key suddenly start trying to come out? I have this different Italian alternator on here and maybe there's some difference in the balance? Any suggestions on what I should do other than just pound the key in harder?
6/1 with 2 tank for WVO.  pushing power into off-grid house battery bank, in winter.

I would pull the key and clean everything up. You can then get some prussian blue and paint the key and check fitment. Should be a nice solid contact pattern over the whole surface. if all that looks good pound it back in. You can also get a collar lock ring to back up the key if you are concerned. Assuming this is an English lister running the generator off of the flywhel, check your pulley alignment. You don't want the belts pulling the flywheel forward or backward.
