Lister LPWS starts once but not again!
« on: October 25, 2023, 04:30:03 PM »
A new problem that I can't get my head around.  When cold it starts immediately and then stops in just a second or two.  After that the engine is completely uninterested.

However I have discovered that if I use full throttle for several minutes and very slowly reduce the revs she will happily settle to a tickover. Once hot she will run and restart happily all day.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds as if the rack, or one or more of the fuel pumps is sticking. You could remove the end cover and see if anything feels tight.

Bit uncanny! I had become convinced myself that it was the rack and a sticking pump but with little idea of how this creates the problem.

Have you had experience of this yourself?

OK at last I have the engine starting reliably from cold. This was with the help of Marine Engine Services/Primrose Engineering (Richard, Sue and Hayden.  In short my governor rail was sticking in the 'fuel off' position. I came to the belief that it was something to do with one of the high pressure fuel pumps but it turned out to be the nylon/plastic "751-10288 GOVERNOR SLEEVE" that was doing the jamming (only when cold).
