Identification help

Hi, we inherited the attached with our house which is slightly off the beaten track. We've never used it but it seems inreasonable nick and knowing how regularly we get power cuts I can appreciate why someone might have bought it years ago. Can anyone help identify it and whether it is collectable at all? The power cuts we have now are very short lived so we don't really have a use for it.

Hi NickS, there should be an identification plate on or around the crankcase door on the other side of the engine from your photo. I note there is no starter motor, so it`s either a hand crank start or it has an alternator head with a built in starter motor.

Many thanks for taking an interest Bob. There are a couple of batteries at the front and a starter button so I'm presuming it has an electric ignition but I really know nothing about these things so bow to your (and the other forum users) far superior knowledge. Is this the plate you were meaning?

Looks like a 10.5 kw single phase 240v genset. Lister ST3 engine. Pretty nice set up being trailer mounted if the wheels are still around somewhere.

Many thanks Broncodriver. Unfortunately we haven't been able to track down the wheels. Do you know if there is anybody that buys these sorts of generators and if so any idea on values? Ultimately it is taking up space that we need to free up and it seems a pity to just scrap it if it is the sort of thing that there seems to be a following for.

What part of the world are you in? I imagine that setup would be faily easy to sell as long as it is in running condition. It looks to be. Value is going to depend on location.

Hi Broncodriver. We're based in Cheshire. I don't know if it runs to be honest. We've not started it in the 8 years it's been in our outbuilding. To the untrained eye it looks in fairly reasonable condition so I would ingrained it should start with a bit of tinkering but clearly I've no real idea about these things so I would defer to the experts.Thanks again for taking an interest.

Hi NickS, that is a very nice generator, if I lived in the UK I would pay you 750 pounds for it as it is. Serviced and load tested with wheels I might pay twice that. I recently bought an untested Lister/Petter twin cylinder generator on a trailer for 1700 Australian dollars, it`s in storage waiting for me to find the time to build it a small shed.
If you measure the wheel stud pattern you can probably get some suitable wheels from a local scrapyard.
Is there an hours meter on the control panel? The value is very much dependant on the amount of work it has done, the one I bought only had 95 hours on it! (due for it`s first oil change).
There is a UK based Lister engine collectors group on Facebook, consider contacting them if you are going to sell.

Hi Bob, thanks for your thoughts, that's interesting to know and interesting also to hear about the Facebook group. I'll take a better look at it tomorrow and perhaps take some more photos to post on here along with any more information I think night be interesting. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to look at my line of posts and for giving their advice/knowledge. It is always kind of enthusiasts to share their expertise on such forums.

Hi, I had a pretty good look today and couldn't see any gauge measuring usage, would there definitely be one? I also found the hand crank and the engine seems to turn at least which is hopefully positive with regards recommissioning. I was trying to attach a couple more photos of a few ancillaries including what looks like a spare fuel tank and some sort of separate box showing the power being generated but am struggling to upload. Any further thoughts/comments would be very interesting. Thanks in advance for the collective wisdom of the group.
