Listeroid Rocker Clearance Adjustmet Frequency (Too often)
« on: June 24, 2023, 07:31:45 PM »
Any one else having to adjust pushrod/rocker arm clearance seemingly too often ?
Mine seems to need clearances tightened up every 10 hours (Sometimes sooner ). I do keep the pushrod cups full of oil).
Possibly poor quality pushrod material ?

Yes the clearances change a lot in the first few hours. The changes usually  taper down after a couple hours operation. I tell people to check them every time they start the engine until they stay set. Several reasons for it all assosiated with poor fits and soft materials starting with the cam lobes and ending atvthe valve seats.

I've seen subtle changes over time, now passing 1300 hours on my 16/2.  In the beginning, during the "break-in", there certainly were some significant changes.  Being a mechanical system without rollers, SOME change is bound to happen.

I have also resorted to using grease in the cups, rather than oil.  A black "moly" grease, it stays put...and I'm now really not noticing any wear (checked at 100 hour intervals).
