Some nice parts from India
« on: June 17, 2023, 05:17:59 PM »
Bamfords diesels are a big part of my shop work right now and unlike the CS engines parts have been a huge problem. I have been held up for bearings and decided to take the dive to have them made. Quantity was a struggle as the price comes down considerably as numbers go up but I'm dealing with a limited market. 54 sets became the magic number, individual price vs quantity.
Quality is superb, nice commercial packaging was unexpected. The babbit is exact hardness specified. I am tickled with them. Now back to work in the shop.

It is good that somebody, somewhere can come through with parts.

I don't know anything about Bamford diesel engines. How do they compare to Listeroids?

Bamfords was a competitor of Lister. The Z series diesels were much heavier duty than the CS types but infourtunatly much more expensive so the production was also much lower. There are quite a few in various Amish communities and that is my primary market.
A Z2 4.5HP version that I restored.

Do they have the same form of splash bearing lubrication? Or is there a pump?

Really nice restoration!

The product looks superb. Glad they made them to spec for you which sometimes can be an issue. Were they made in various sizes in oversize or all standard?

Choice about shaft sizes was also difficult and complicated furthermore by two different sizes on the big end of the rod. Cost wise each size requested was no different than a completely different bearing. To have bearings from standard to 030 under and for two different O.D.s would require an order for 400 bearings and $20,000.00 investment in bearings that would never be sold in 10 lifetimes,, or more. So, we ordered inserts speced for the large bore rod and in .030 under. We can machine the big end of the small rods to suit and we can get cranks ground much cheaper than stocking $20,000 worth of bearings. Remember the market is limited
