800 hours on 16/2...Toilet Paper Filter
« on: February 15, 2023, 12:14:20 PM »
Hi Folks- for those doubting Thomases, I attach for you the 800-hour results of the 16/2.  Please keep in mind, this engine is NOT a museum piece.  It's a work-horse, as was intended.  Sure, I keep it preserved from the elements in a thin coating of burned motor oil.  That's just to keep it pristine underneath!

The Frantz toilet paper filter continues to work flawlessly.

Love those old toilet-paper filters for low-tech engines

Looks like a good machine there.  well done

Very nice! I also have a bypass filter on my 20/2. I use a 0.032 orifice to feed it. I have it discharge over the poorly oiled section of the cam.

I just hit 1,000 hours.  No problems.  Toilet paper filter, and a slight optimization to the fuel pump cam centerline (about 26-degrees BTDC start).  I balanced the 16/2 myself, using a simple digital scale and some cobbled together holding devices for the big and small ends of the connecting rods.  Match-weighed the pistons, by machining each to the same weight.

I removed the change over valves and instead installed the inserts. No problems at all. The engine is a touch more efficient at the higher compression ratio. Otherwise, mine is similar.

Thanks for the update.

Interesting, While there are certainly India modifications that I have never seen I have not had in my hands a blanking plug that would offer a compression increase over  a COV when screwed in.  The factory specs for a blanking plug equipped engine give a compression ratio between the high and low available with a COV. This is acomplished via an increase in the bump clearance spec.

On my GTC 6/1 Listeroid, I was able to remove the COV and screw in a plug provided by Central Georgia Generator. (back 10 years ago).
The plug was fitted with a glow plug for cold weather starting. Sold it along with the engine several years back

- Changfa R175 - Lease/Neville Alternator
- JiangDong R165 Air cooled - 2 kw
