Oil on top of me piston HA2

(1/2) > >>

ube:

Took me heads off and there was a puddle of oil in the recess on top of No1 piston.
Also this piston and head were coked up too.
No2 piston was prefect.
New piston kit and barrels were fitted 2 years ago

Hi Ube, Only a couple of options for oil in a cylinder; it`s either coming up from below or it`s coming down from above. Check the piston rings aren`t damaged and that the ring gaps are not aligned allowing oil to blow up and compression to escape. Check condition of valves and guides, some cylinder heads have seals on the valves.

Just a thought, are you sure it was oil? A leaky injector could dribble diesel onto the piston.

Ey up BoB,
Yeh it was oil....the rings are pretty new and in good shape with no signs of blow-by....so think ya right bout it coming from the top....

Thanks BoB for getting back to me
Cheers ube

Let us know how you get on after checking the head, valves and gasket.
Also curious how you can tell there is no blow by with out physically checking where the ring gaps are.

Checked valves and they sealed good but found the rubber seal had perished around the injector....and as for me thinking there was no blow by I was going on the condition on the piston when I took it out.....no signs of blow by .....the only issue I have now having rebuilt it is it won't pick up from tick over..had to ...if I adjust the overload stop as far forward as it goes it'll rev but soon I put it in gear it dies... it starts lovely first turn of the key but that's about it.....I've looked at must things but I could be missing summut so simple......off to pull some more hair out me head ???
