JP4 fuel pump setting
« on: August 17, 2022, 08:09:12 PM »
I have a JP4 in my barge.   I have had some excessive smoking from the exhaust recently and want to make sure the fuel pump is timing out correctly.

The manual indicates that the CAV pump should be set with the "R" scribed on the pump shaft aligned with the scribe on the pump housing and the #1 cylinder at 24 degrees BTDC on the firing stroke.  Does this sound right?  I have marked the flywheel at the prescribed 4.82" (122.428mm) to match the 24 degree target as defined in the manual.

Am I missing something in the process?

Cheers

Tom

What colour is the smoke? If black, could be just air filter, grey could be injectors,
