Yep, watching old foundry workers doing their trade plus making a steam engine for LMS was a bonus. My mates Dad was a pattern maker at Garden Island Dock Yard, Sydney. When we visited the yard the old pattern room still has drawings on the timber floor of what was being made, checked or designed.

A great link to something extraordinary that was an everyday event, every now and then there's a post showing guys in the Indian sub continent doing similar things on a tiny scale, thanks for the post, mihit

Ade, do we have, or if not, please could we have, a spot where we can post things like this?

I know there's 'Everything Else' and it has little to do with the core of the Lister Engine Forum, but a few posts like this, every month would make great bed time reading........

Cheers

Theres some brilliant "third world mechanics" all right.
I came across one where the fulla re-winds an alternator BY HAND. Two nails in a bit of wood to size the coils, roll of enamel wire and away he went, using bamboo skewers to hold things in place.

Necessity is the mother of all invention eh.

It's interesting, what gets lost to time, cos people "nowadays" think it's too boring to bother recording... how much ancient knowledge we've lost as a species.

Then, there's the kids recording damned everything to put on the net cos they think anyone gives a hoot.

The beginning of that reminded me of an old Hyunai synchronised driving video. Bloody cool.
There's a couple of the old chevy videos that put things in plainer language than I'd ever thought about it. But I suppose someone had to invent screws, pinions, cogs...the wheel even.

Anyway. Today's pick:
