Inline coolant thermostat
« on: July 14, 2022, 03:34:15 PM »

Does anyone know of a car (or other vehicle) that uses and "Inline" coolant thermostat?
Something that does not fit into the engine block, but instead mounts inline with the hoses.
The water jacket blanking plate on my R175 does not have the room to machine a port and flange connection for a conventional automotive thermostat/housing.

My other option would be to use a solenoid valve connected to a temperature switch/sensor.

Thank you diesel spanner. Ordered 2 for less than $28.. Perfect for my R170 that has little room for a regular housing like veggie's does.. Everything is plastic in automobile cooling systems today and hold up just fine at water temps of 225-230f and 16psi pressure.
Should be no issue running these on a little changfa.

Yes $24. I ordered one to try out.
Not sure of the hose size? I may have to make/buy some adapters to convert it to the current 3/4" hoses in my system.

Hi All

Having seen the lovely bit of kit in the last post I started thinking......

How about a female / female BSP (or NPT, for the 'States) union, sized to hold a standard thermostat with a hose tail / barb in each end sized to whatever pipe work you are using?

Drill a small hole in the flange of the 'stat to allow circulation (to get the hot water moving around a bit) then fix it into the union with a gasket, or even simpler, some silicon sealant.

Two jubilee  (hose) clips and you're done!

They are also made specifically for go-kart racing.

I could not find one in my price range. That's why I went with the Land Rover version.
