Hi all,

As suggested by another member, I wanted to open this thread to contain a list of "officially interested in this engine, can we find a good price" posts, and keep a running list.

So far, I have found these prices, from a friendly supplier.  I will find out more details about the engines, as asked.  This is as much a learning experience for me, as it is an unknown risk for you, so be patient.  I'm still figuring out what is really important, and taking stock of the shape of that market for engines.

I'll add 30% to these listed prices, to cover the ride over and the trip through the port.  I don't think that's unreasonable.  I'm not looking to make any money on this deal.  Amend the stated price of $220/ea. for R165Ms accordingly.

R165M: $156
     electric start, indirect injection, evaporative cooling, unknown brand (have asked for specifics)

KM186: $675
     electric start, injection type unknown (but will not vary), water pump cooling, Sanjia brand clone.  Laidong/Kama available from a different supplier, at potentially a higher price.

ZR185: $288
    electric start, direct injection, radiator cooling, Sanjia brand clone.  I am probing suppliers to find branded engines, but some these may not be available.

(Ask for indirect injection and other configs, if interested)

Aluminum CNF173F (Yanmar clone): $177
    recoil start, assume direct injection, unknown brand

(I was offered the CNF173F engines instead of the older-style cast-iron engines with the V-belt pulleys.  I like the older-style cast iron engines better, so I probably won't purchase any of these myself, from this supplier, but if anyone else is interested, here it is...)

Mainly, I just want to be able to keep the engines quoted, their features and prices straight, without repeating and getting crossed up in PMs.

I'm happy to contact suppliers to answer questions, or pass you along directly to them via email or something.  I'm curious to know the questions y'all will have, as well as the answers.

After all the prices for all the engines and parts people are interested in are kind of lumped up, and questions have been answered to folks' satisfaction, and when we've decided how to handle the financial parts, we can make orders and arrange shipping.  This will be less-than-container-load (LCL), so higher dollars per ft^3 to ship and shuffle, but not such a big bite that we can't manage to chew it, hopefully.

By condenser cooling, you're talking about the radiator with belt driven fan, that mounts on top of the water jacket?

Not the evaporative cooling tank.

It would help if I also read for content.  I'll ask about the indirect injection model, and about brand/design variants like ZH, ZS, S, ....

Out of curiosity, why would you prefer indirect injection over direct injection?

This is my impression of the nomenclature:

Z Prefix= Direct injection
R Prefix= It appears this is the basic engine series/design class and without the Z prefix includes the "swirl" combustion chamber, guessing that means indirect injection
No Suffix= Hopper Cooled Hand Start
N Suffix= Radiator Cooled with belt and fan
L Suffix= I believe this includes a headlamp
M Suffix= Electric Start
F Suffix= Air Cooled

There also appears to be reference to:

S Prefix= This is a different but similar engine series. This series gets larger in displacement than the R series.
B Suffix= Hopper Cooled

I will update this if I find anything else or if anyone else knows any other nomenclature on these engine.

The engine supplier lady said roughly the same thing, but added:

ZS engines are larger than ZH engines, physically.  Looking at them from the outside, the biggest design difference seems to me like it is a bigger gear case on one than the other.  This tells me that the ZH engines may not have internal balance shafts, where the S and ZS engines might.  I have asked about that, and the lady says she will send pics, too.

ZH engines can be had with direct or indirect injection.

ZS are direct injection

S are Sifeng (or Sifang?) designs, indirect injection, and seem to be kind of the "big block" counterpart to the R engines.

LD and KM are Laidong design.  This supplier does not sell genuine Laidong engines, but clones built by Sanjia.  I suspect this might be the same for other designs.

SD are Shandong designs.  The supplier says their SD engines are made by Shandong for Sanjia, and branded Sanjia.  I'm a little skeptical, and am working on sourcing genuine branded Shandong engines from a different supplier.

If anyone wants genuine, branded engines, I will try to track down quotes on those.

I've asked for a spreadsheet and exploded parts diagrams, so anyone interested can pick their poison for spare parts.  We can put together a spreadsheet for her, or something. She says she will see if she has that available.

I think this might cipher out to being ZR185NM.  That config is quoted at $288+30%, above, for the Sanjia clone engine.

I've asked Taian Up for a quote on one of these, and a list of the brands they carry for that config.
