TS3 engine revs very high on startup

Hello Everyone,

I have a good ol' TS3 in a dumper; it's fully serviced and runs well.

The only issue that I have is that when the engine is cool (not cold) or warm (not hot) it revs very high momentarily on start-up, before dropping to its normal idle.

When the engine is cold or hot, it starts as you'd expect and idles immediately.

Of course, no one likes revving old diesels hard, especially from start-up and without load...

Any ideas about what's causing it and how I can stop it from happening?

Don't you just love a challenge?
Can I suggest to first disconnect the linkages going to the pump and try a start up. If it still shows the same problem then I would guess the problem is between the linkages and each pump, one or more may be sticking or out of adjustment. Give them all a good squirt of Inox or similar and work the linkages back and forth to make sure it is moving freely then try another start up and let us know how you get on.
