Battery charge maintainance
(1/1)
veggie:
I need a method of keeping my battery bank topped up (floated) during periods of no Sun or extended times between use.
Under normal use the small 24 volt battery bank will be bulk charged by the 50 Amp, 24 volt alternator on the Listeroid, then solar would take over and float the bank.
Later in the year, I plan to add 3 solar panels (total 660 watts) with a charge controller that takes care of the float and equalization.
In the meantime, is something like this acceptable for keeping the bank topped up? Plugged into the grid of course.
(Four 6 volt golf cart batteries in series. Total rating 225 amps C20 )
This would be used only for float/maintenance. Not for bulk charging.

Or is there something more applicable that someone can recommend?

I like the NOCO GENIUS chargers, but OMG, when you get to the 24v models, the price skyrockets !
NOCO GENIUSPRO25, 25-Amp Fully-Automatic Professional Smart Charger, 6V, 12V and 24V Battery Charger, Battery Maintainer, $550 amazon
The little 6A ones I use are only about $60. They go to an Idle mode, and stop charging so you don't boil all the electrolyte away. Dumb motorcycle chargers in the $20 ballpark will dry a battery out in a month or 2.

Thanks mike90045,
I see that this one has an auto shut off feature that you mentioned.

I used a forklift battery charger on my 24v system. 240v single phase in, 24v out. I actually have it for sale for $200 if you are interested. 124 amp max output.

Thanks for the offer. Too far away. I'm in western Canada. Shipping and hidden fees would kill the deal.
I'm ordering the little 5 stage low amperage amperage unit. It's just for maintenance, not for bulk charging.
cheers
