change the fuel out as you plan
then service the filter as needed, fill the reservoir too
then crack open the high pressure line that feeds the injector
it is the one from the injection pump up to the end of the injector, a steel line.

you might have to loosen it about 1 turn or a bit more and wriggle the line to make sure it is not
rusted in place. once you know the end is loose from the end of the injector, tighten it back down, then loosen about a half turn or so.

put the fuel rack lever toward full fuel, full throttle

then set the compression release and start rolling the engine over,

after a few revolutions you should start to see a bit of fuel leaking out of the loose fitting
keep turning until it is squirting out

then tighten that line, and then start cranking and drop the compression release, and it should bark to life.

you don't want your fingers in close proximity to the injection line when it is injecting, the spray can pierce the skin with nasty medical results.

done as described you won't have your fingers anywhere close to harms way.

btw, if the push rod is 97% it might well be straighter than stock!  ;)

good luck
