Oh, very nice.... I believe that's a JP2 engine, given the enclosed pushrods, 18hp @ 1000rpm rating, and the direct drive on one of the flywheels.

Where is "nearby", if you're not buying yourself? Looks like Wales to me...
Cheers!

Orkney! Damn, that's a bit of a logistical nightmare... for me, anyway. Wales would have been so much easier  ;D
Cheers!

Would the £200 price tag make it more attractive,

It would be attractive at twice that price! Unfortunately, newly immigrated wife + baby only a couple of months away = no spare cash and, more importantly, no spare time with which to play!
Cheers!

Hi AdeV

Make a pleasant surprise to your lovely wife. Next March, 8 will be the woman international day. Nothing like that jewel to reinforce your love to her!

Cheers

There's a jp3 for sale in holland in better shape,
https://link.marktplaats.nl/m1523623520

There for sale regularly but looks there's not really a market. To big and heavy for hobby and to old for use.

Nice sound though

If I had a swimming pool I could hook up a bunch of elements  and boil the pool in an hour.

Sounds like you need a) a swimming pool, and b) a bigger one  ;D

One day,  o n e  d a y.....  :'(

I suffer from that problem too!
Cheers!

Here is one on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lister-J-P-4-Diesel-Marine-Diesel-engine/113995344977

It is worth that price for the electric start flywheel alone if the ring gear is any good.

Here is yet another example, this would be a JK4, but with terminal crankcase damage, but an ideal spares donor.

Hmm, I struggled to get £500 for mine, which was a runner with working electric start!
Cheers!

/\ If I remember correctly your JP4 engine had a cobbled together electric start arrangement, with an automotive flywheel taper locked onto the crankshaft, and an automotive starter motor meshing with it via a welded steel framework arrangement.

Whereas this ebay JP4 has the original fitment electric start flywheel.

Currently Marine Power Services will want the thick end of £600 just to fit one of their starter rings to your own flywheel.

My JP4 had a JK electric flywheel. I'm not sure what the starter was, I presume it was liberated from the same JK that gave up its flywheel. It certainly wasn't lashed together, it looked pretty OEM to be honest.

I think the one you're thinking of is my CS, which has an automotive flywheel bolted to the ST gen head, with a very much lashed together steel frame holding both the generator and the starter.
Cheers!
