metro diesel generator
« on: March 05, 2020, 09:36:27 AM »
Ive found this engine generator and was wondering if it would be worth looking at getting.  1800 rpm. 8. something kw generator.  It does run though the output is about 175 volts so my understanding the rpm needs adjusted.  thanks

Probably not the RPM that needs ajusting but the voltage reg or it needs to be replaced depending on the type.

That is one of the Petter/ Kiroslar? types and would make a good reliable unit. Being water cooled would make it a tad quieter and probably a bit more long lived. Appears to have electric as well as crank start which is a bonus.

If you are in need of a generator and don't mind a bit of tweaking and tuning, it would be an excellent unit to have.

How easy is the voltage reg to either adjust or obtain and replace?  Yes hand crank and electric start.  And yes i don't mind tinkering with it.  I think i would enjoy it.  He said he imported several of them and used most of them to run on the pivots or irrigation pivots in arizona.  He moved to oklahoma and brought a couple with him.  While i would love to have one that runs slower I do think this one would be a good one to have at the farm as we are off grid and would be able to run the deep wheel pump along with being able to charge up the battery bank.  Yes we have solar but lots of trees so don't get as much sunlight as would be nice.  Im just wanting more info on the unit from you all out here if I can get some pointers on it.  The price isn't bad either.  $750. thanks

Hard to say if it's an adjustable type or the electronic kind. If it was the manual sort I'd be refitting with a universal Regulator.
Pick them up on fleabay for around $20.

Slow speed isn't everything. These lumps last a good long while and are not near the size or weight of the thumpers.

Seems like the price is right and the fix could be very simple and very cheap.
If you are wanting 120V, If the genny is putting out 175v Unloaded, It might just be that it needs a load for the regular to sense and respond to.
