LR1 Oil Bath Air Cleaner 201-11423
« on: February 16, 2020, 03:41:33 PM »
Hello

I am restoring an old LR1 and the oil bath air cleaner is badly bent and beyond repair.

I am struggling to find one here in the UK. Part No. 201-11423

Would anyone happen to know where I could obtain one for sensible price?

Thanks

Peter

As far as I know, all the old series Landrovers had oil bath filters.  Surely a scrapyard close to you would have a selection of them.  Otherwise, chuck the oil bath and put on a Donaldson type.  Much more effective anyway.  Unless of course, originality is an issue.

My twin Cyl 30 Hp Lombardi had an oil bath cleaner. Took it off and put on a proper paper filter.
Don't know if the oil is better or worse at filtration but it's a messy pain in the arse that's for sure.  Looking at it, I don't think it would have cleaned that well. Seemed to be very coarse in the wire and lots of gaps for air to slip through.  Far as I'm concerned, nothing beats paper for best filtration.

In the old days I had a car with an engine I modified. Had a LOT of clearance to the bonnet so I siliconed 3 standard air filters together , increased the height of the air cleaner housing and put on a 4" Inlet flexible duct to the front of the car for a cold air feed.  Great flow, cold air and cheap standard air filters.
