Hi Guys.
I bought this new toy I mean little heater a couple of weeks ago it runs on paraffin. It's a Rippingilles Fyrside needs painted and tidied but it works well, good heat. My question is how can I measure the output of the heater? BTU OR KW
Oiler:
To quote wikipedia: Heat of combustion of kerosene is similar to that of diesel fuel; its lower heating value is 43.1 MJ/kg (around 18,500 Btu/lb), and its higher heating value is 46.2 MJ/kg (19,900 Btu/lb).
If your heater is burning without smoke, the above should be your heat output.

Thanks Glort I was hoping you would chip in. The way the heater works is there is 2 gallon glass bottles inside turned upside down and the paraffin goes into little cups. The left one always empties first so a pint's burning in that bottle should give some indication. I appreciate the info

The reflector is very dull its aluminium seems to have had some type of coating on it at some stage but most is gone now. I believe cream of tartar is a good polish for aluminium so that's today's little job. I'd say you were on the money with 3kw Glort. I have a little room in my house 12x14 feet running the heater on odour free paraffin I have to open the door after about an hour. The missus thinks it's a load of dirty smelly scrap so I think it's doing it's job.

I'm using stuff called Tozane it's bloody dear €40 for 20 litres. It burns about 500 mils an hour it's only warming a small room then you have to open the door. There was a similar one in a local shop when I was a child it was much bigger than my hiding room and it was warm. Temperature is adjustable I have discovered the adjuster on the side
