Lister LD1 oil ring
« on: December 08, 2019, 08:34:17 PM »
Evening all. Can anyone confirm that there should be a steel oil ring at the gear end of the camshaft (Not crankshaft) on my 1960 LD1 as there was one fitted behind the oil seal when i stripped the engine. I have heard it should be there and also been told it should not be there. I have checked the parts book and there is no sign of one there. Just need to be sure for when i put it back together. Thanks.
Mick

Hey Mick,

Here is the best I can do. Manual page scans below. I have never been into an LD1. The manual does show something there. Items #16 and #17. #16 does look like an oil thrower and one is called out in the parts description. Oddly when you look at the description page #16 just says oil seal and there is no #17 notated. But, right above #16 there is an item noted oil thrower. Part # 201-13200. I found these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-LISTER-LD-LR-SL-SR-ST-ENGINE-OIL-THROWER-PARK-OF-10-201-13200-X-10-/251891116571

I am guessing either they used the throwers on earlier engines and maybe changed to a different type seal at some point and they were no longer needed, or they were included with replacement seals and not originally offered separately.

Thanks guys, yes part no 16 is what im on about. I have done a bit more digging and i have come to the conclusion that its getting refitted mainly because it was there in the first place, and its not going to do any harm anyway. Looks like i will have to renew the oil seal as well. Thanks again chaps.
