Lister D backfiring
« on: October 02, 2019, 10:26:20 PM »
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I have a question about my Lister D. I have had a couple of times that when I close the fuel tap to stop te engine, it immediatly backfires out of the carb. Are there more people with the same problem? Or does anyone here have a solution for it? Thanks in advance.

A bit more info if possible.
By turning the fuel off it will not make it backfire straight away or at any time. You either have a valve problem and they need lapping in or a magneto issue with timing. It the engine starts easily then your timing is good. SO that would make me think it is poorly seating valves.

Thank you for the reply. The engine starts without a problem and it seems like it's running fine me, so I think it are the valves then. In that case, I will have my work cut out for me next saturday.

double check your ignition and valve timing first then if it appears to be ok lift the head and look at the valves as shutting off the fuel would not cause backfire.
