Screw marked oil... Where??
« on: October 01, 2019, 10:42:47 AM »
Hi. I've rebuilt the cylinder head on my 5/1 and have it back together, but in the manual it says something like open the screw near the tappets and pour in around 1/4 pint of oil.

Where is this screw??

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam

Your toy has a bush oposite to governor housing, and at top there will be a brass screw marked "oil", unscrew it and put oil.

Cheers

Thanks. There is no label and no bush on mine... And I didn't bother as I haven't been in that bit yet.

The engine is actually my only source of electricity in the winter on cloudy still days, so problematic to be caput.

Seems to be running ok now though.

I am clueless about engines.

The valve seats were a bit pitted and I couldn't get it all out by lapping. Can you get new seats and press the old ones out?

I won't tell you the two stupid things I've already done with it today...

OK.

I just couldn't seem to bleed it through - fuel tap off...

I then had a major panic that it was still leaking badly past the valves. I hadn't screwed the injector down...

It still misses a bit on low compression with 1kW load. A suggestion was that I check the spill timing, which frankly terrifies me.

Sam,

Don't panic. take a large break and read all manual. After that we have plenty of time to help you.

Remember, one step a time, I mean baby steps.

Your engine is a machine, you must treat her like it is. TLC.
