GM90 + gen head on craigslist
« on: July 29, 2019, 10:58:08 PM »
I found this one on craigslist, seems like a decent buy for someone in the U.S. https://columbiamo.craigslist.org/for/d/holts-summit-generator/6913264834.html

Seriously considering it myself, but I think I would rather wait for a clone to come up near me.

Nice find. Heavy flywheels and starter make it exceptional.

How is parts availability on these compared to a clone?

Ah, I completely forgot about that very big issue...these are direct injection heads, and I'm not sure how many other mods have been made that might affect CS parts compatibility in the distant future.

Gary at DES is fully a clone supporter for just that reason, and I do pay close very attention to him and Butch, since I'm a babe in the woods with engines by comparison to them.

I have had experience with many GM90's. They are built to a faily good quality.
Approximately 2/3'rds the physical size of a regular Listeroid CS.
Parts are readily available from Lovson and Satyajeet.
They will ship vial DHS or other couriers anywhere.
Don't be afraid to buy it.

The GM90 engines differ from either CS or the simplified Listeroid types and there are a lot of parts that do not interchange. However they are sold by other suppliers under other names. Lovson calls thier versions  Little Giants. Parts should not be a problem  if one doesn't mind  dealing  directly  with India.

Approximately 2/3'rds the physical size of a regular Listeroid CS.

Interesting.

Only seen them in vids and pictures but I got the impression they were much larger than regular Roids and there was at least one version that was huge.

Guess things can be deceiving!

Yes, that's one of the reasons I switched from the Listeroid CS to the GM90. It's a small version of the Listeroid CS.
The other difference with the GM90 is that they incorporate a crank driven oil pump in the sump which delivers pressurized oil to the big end through an oil journal in the crank.
From what I can gather, Satyajeet makes them. Loveson sells them also, but they are a rebranded Satyajeet (and they cost more). I have bought GM90's from both companies.

This is my GM90 (External Oil filter lines disconnected here. I was changing the circ. pump to a different model)

They made it into production by an outfit named Topland. There was at least one batch imported here by Mike Montieth(spelling) Lovson had tjrm listed for a while.  Gary at DES tried to import a few a couple years ago but was unsuccessful
One of them, with Lovson badging sold on EBay a couple years ago, had it not been on the other side of the country I would have owned it.

I purchased a 6hp GM90 from Mike Montieth in 2007 or 8. Mike used to sell listeroids before He picked up the GM90’s I played with both and decided the GM90 had some refinements over the CS.
As Veggie mentioned, Crank driven oil pump. Another thing it I liked was it was internally balanced with counter weights on the crank. The timken roller bearings were huge on both crank ends. When I purchased it I purchased the extra heavy flywheels with it. They were the same diameter as spoke flywheels but much wider. they were about double the weight of the spokes. Mike and I installed them at his shop and it made a huge difference while running. It ran smoother and it took much longer to quit spinning when fuel and compression release engaged. Since it was direct injection it emitted far less black smoke when loaded. In cold days it started up well. Oh, before Mike and I started it we removed the cover plate and checked for contaminants such as sand. It was absolutely clean.
The GM90 I wish I bought was the tiny 3hp one he had. The thing was about 1/2 the size of the 6hp I purchased. I think the flywheels were about 14” or 16” in diameter. I would of kept that one.

I have pictures of the 6hp GM90 some place. I’ll have to look and see if I can find them.

Hi hwew, good to see that you're still around :-)

THEY HAVE A TINY 3HP GM90 UNIT ? ? ?
What !

I have to look into this. If I had known that I would have brought a container load when I imported my inventory a few years ago.
That would be a perfect combination of size and reliability.
After several years of dealing with Satyajeet I did not here about a smaller 3HP version.

Could it have been their TRB-90A 3HP engine?
Different configuration than the GM90.

Hi Veggie, it has been a long time. Yes I’m still kicking. How are you doing?

It’s a 4hp mini GM90.
Yes they are real. About half the size of a 6hp GM90. Yes it looks exactly like a dual flywheel GM90.
When I bought the 6hp GM90 Mike Montieth had 5 or 6 three hp mini’s in his shop. They were so cute I should of bought one. A matter of fact it would be great for a cogen unit.
If they are still made I wonder if they can be brought in as compressors.
