Manual for a Toyota UTE?
« on: September 28, 2018, 12:33:02 AM »
A request for members in UK, NZ, or AUS or anyone else who might know the answers

I have a Toyota Townace/Liteace pick-up truck.....1996 model CM65 4WD long bed (2000Kg)
What type of oil is to be used in the front and read differentials, the transfer case, and manual transmission?
Does anyone know where to get an owners manual, or better, a repair manual for this vehicle? In English.

I know they were sold new in the abovementioned countries, and probably more (Japan, of course). I am in Canada and imported this one myself from Japan. Sure could use some additional information.

Cheers
Hugh

Hello Hugh

I have a couple of Camrys & our work has several Hiluxes so the local Toyota people take quite a few $$ off me annually, and we have a fairly good working relationship . . .

I just now emailed the Service Manager and asked her.  We'll see what she says.  I hope she will come back to me . . .

It's Friday evening now so I wouldn't expect a reply for a day or two.  I'll keep you posted

Cheers

Hello Mikenash and Johndoh

Thanks for your replies.
It might help to know that this model has a 2Lt diesel, non-turbo.
It is not a Dyna, that is a bit larger model, and it is not one of those really small 600cc gas engined trucks.
I do have a parts manual, and a manual for the engine alone, but a repair manual or even owners manual would be quite helpful.

Truck looks like this.

I have attached a photo of our older truck (we have 2) but am not sure it will work.
Thanks everyone for any help with this, even if it is only the correct oil types for the drive train.
Cheers,
Hugh

G'day Hugh

I wonder if this unit is the same (van obviously but otherwise . . . .)

Would you like to take a look at the pics/specs & advise?  Might make it easier to pin down details?

He says 2L diesel, 4WD, Hi-low etc

Cheers

@Mikenash
I don't see a link in your question there, so cannot say.
Thanks for helping with this, I know it takes up your time........and time is all we've got ( in ever decreasing quantities!)

Usually autoparts places have access to manufacturers data for parts lubricants etc. You give them the registration number or the make model and year and they can look up what parts you need.

Johndoh
You are correct. Though since these models were never imported into North American countries, they are not a part of the relevant data bases...........they don't exist!
I do have a complete parts break-down from a Russian website (it is in English), but alas, can find no other information by searching from here. Now that the search engines think they know what you want to see, I am always directed to useless sites.
Cheers,
Hugh

Thanks Johndoh
That chart is quite helpful for servicing the drivetrain.
Still, if anyone has info regarding a manual, I would sure like to have it!
The truck is pretty simple, though more information as would be found in a repair manual (especially a wiring diagram) would be a valuable addition.
The photo of the my with a 6/1 SOM is my older machine. It gets used as an on farm machine now, hauling logs out of the bush, carrying firewood and horseshit, etc. We have a slightly newer one in far better shape that is our only daily driver. It is an ideal vehicle for rural/island use. Can just about climb a tree in 4WD Low Range and can carry a ridiculous amount of weight. Once carried 1 1/2 yards of gravel, just about had the front wheels off the ground.
Anyway, they are tough and reliable machines. Slow though, at 100kph  it is wound right out!

So still looking for a manual.
Thanks for any and all assistance.
Cheers
Hugh

G'day Hugh

Our Toyota service manager concurs with your other advice re oil & makes a comment on cold Canadian temps.  This is what she says:

"NZ specs - gearbox and transfer takes Castrol VMX80 (GL-4), front diff EPX 80w90, rear diff the same unless it’s an LSD in which case it’ll take 85w90 LSD specific (Castrol LSX90)

May be a little different if your friend is in Canada due to the cold, (though VMX is actually designed for cold temps) but it’s a guide at least!"

Hey Hugh - further to this; I have googled all over the place and cannot find a site that will provide a manual as a PDF

There are several sites that promise "Free PDF" if you register/sign up etc - have you seen them? I'm just a bit cautious about them . . .

Good luck  :)

Yes indeed, I have seen those. I actually tried one of them for a different manual. After getting my info, they admitted to not actually having "that particular manual"
Skeptical.

Hugh
