Folks,
I have been trying & failing to time the pumps using the spill method. I just cannot get it to work. I am rebuilding the engine so I am using the original parts, The marks for TDC & FP on the flywheel are correct, I know this because I used TDC marks to set the valve head clearance on each piston. This is what I do:
1. Remove internal spring, seat & valve from body, re-tighten the body to pump being checked.
2. Push prime lever once to fill the pump, diesel wells out.
3. I bring the piston to TDC on ignition (power) stroke.
4. I go forwards revolution approx 2-3 inches, then start to go anti-clockwise until such time as the fuel starts to go back down into the valve.
5. When I lock at the flywheel FP mark at this point, the FP mark is at least a 1/4 rev past the arrow mark on the fan-shroud.
If I add a shim then it makes virtually no difference ( the page says 1 deg per .127mm shim). the difference is too large for a shim to correct. There is something fundamentally wrong.
I have tried this too many times & it never works out. Is there something that I am missing OR does anyone have a video on how to do it, I cannot find any relevant Lister videos on YouTube.
Does anybody know what is going wrong here or has anybody got a video one their own engine ? Would appreciate any help.
thks
