24 volt
« on: September 20, 2018, 08:54:12 AM »
HI, I am new to this and I am in need of help. I have been doing up a Lister cs 8/1 I have got her running by the way of a lot of new parts. my problem is that the BKB alternator only will put out 1.4 volt at the terminals at the box on top of the alternator I have not connected any battery's to it yet. the 230 Volt out put seems OK although it is 227-228 at 850 RPM with 3 kw load.

Recommend you fit a battery, or two if it`s 24 volt. While running you should have a voltage of between 13 and 14 volt for a single battery to charge and double that for a 24 volt system.

Please do the test and get back to us.

Maybe it's like an auto alternator that needs the battery DC?

Hey Mike, yes I think the BWB is the standard car alternator commonly fitted in VW and other German vehicles. Good quality unit, should provide very good service.

Hello, I have fitted two 12 volt to get 24 volt. all is well""" she starts on the button and also on auto when I switch on a heater for load. The discharge is -3.5 amps when starting then +1.5 amps charging when running. thanks for the advice. probably not be long before I need help again!

it is a Lister CS 8/1 with a 4.5KVa 230v 24V alternator
