Anyone using Redstone now?

Seems there have been no posts re the Redstone for quite a while. I understand there were only about 30 of these imported into North America. Is anyone running one now? I have a friend who bought one, set it up for back-up power, hardly ever used though. Curious about how they have worked out?

They seemed like quite robust machines.

Randybee.......I know I would be interested to hear about yours when you do get around to setting it up. I helped a friend do a tear-down and reassembly a couple of years back. That one was full of casting sand. We cleaned it out and reassembled checking clearances etc. Ran fine, but has not gotten used since. Doubt it has even 1 hour on it now. Wish I had more to report, and am interested to know others experience.

Hugh, I hope to finish my Cat build in about 3 weeks time. Hopefully by mid August I will start my Redstone build. I already have it and an ST head bolted to an I-beam frame. I had Randy Almand machine a pulley for me for the engine and the ST. My first order of business will to take it apart, clean and spec it. Hopefully I'll start posting some pics in about a month.

Saw that above mentioned engine in service yesterday.  Not a lot more to report. lHas a total of about 5 hours on it, so can't say much. Drives a ST 10Kw gen head..
It is in a room about 10 X 12 ft. and seems very loud compared to a 6/1 Lister(oid). Mostly intake noise, though what % is hard to say. This Redstone is being used as a standby unit, so will probably not get a lot of use during its life.
There, at least one is working for its living, even if part time.

Well, My Redstone is still in deep storage. I'm working on finishing up putting together a Chinese Yanmar clone, a 2 cyl Kubota and a 3 cyl Kubota. Maybe next year I'll get to tear in to it.

I too have a Redstone in Hawaii. It is also sitting deep in the garage. Mounted on an I beam with a 10kw head upgraded by Power Solutions. Randy Almand  custom pulleys geared to 1500 rpm on the Redstone. I don't think you can find Randy's pulleys anymore.

 One day I hope to have it running.

I still have mine and it's still setting in the garage under a tarp. I finally got motivated on finishing my Cat/Perkins build after something like 4 years or so. It'll probably be a few years before I touch the Redstone. Too many other things in life.

I finally got my Redstone up and running. Have had it since 2009. I took it apart, cleaned and checked everything. Put about 2hrs. on it, then stored it. Moved it to my new pole building last week. Made a hardwood skid and mounted it and a 5kw ST head that I also have had since 2003. I plan on getting a 10kw head this winter to hook up to the engine. The engine starts and runs fine.

They do look like a pretty much standard china diesel with the addition of a second flywheel. Perhaps a specialized version for electrical generation?

RP48: When you took it apart was there much dirt/sand etc inside? Also, does it run smooth on that pallet or is there some vibration

Randybee1;   There is some vibration, but not severe enough to cause a problem. I run the engine about 1400rpm to achieve 1800 rpm/60hz at the generator. When I put a 4800watt on it, the engine smooths out.

Good to know. I have mine mounted onto an I-beam frame. I have the Almand pulley and will be running at about 1500 rpm.
