A very impressive piece of Listeroid adaptive engineering in Rajkot, but baffling as a single stage steam engine venting to atmosphere is so fuel inefficient (1-10%) that other than a solar powered steam boiler it's hard to imagine a suitable application.

At least it looks like it's well balanced - no hopping around at all!

I'm not afraid to take anything apart.
I am sometimes afraid I'm not going to get it back together.

You think that`s a crazy have a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABtgLwnpUNU
Same guy has coupled two together to make a steam powered twin!

Neat adaptation. I do agree with Bruce n that  a person would think it would at least have a low pressure cylinder to aide in efficiency .

Here is another one from the same source:

An interesting Vee twin arrangement, which they optimisticly claim is good for 100HP

I disagree........that's a double acting cylinder. Otherwise, why would there be two two petcocks to release water until it heats up? If you watch (and listen) to it running, it definitely has two power impulses.

All that, plus it appears the entire Listeroid cylinder has been replaced with one suitable for a piston valve. This may be "nothing more" than a Listeroid converted to steam, but it's really pretty clever and utilizes an already proven platform (base, crank, flywheels).
I've joined "the dark side"....if it has a spark plug, it's obsolete technology.

Yes, but it is still only using the steam supply once i.e. single expansion. What would have been more interesting if they had used a twin cylinder Listeriod, and made it into a compound engine with high and low pressure cylinders.

So...how does he keep the steam (water condensation) from getting past the rings and into the oil.?
A vertical cylinder along with gravity may not be helping the matter.

/\ I wondered that as well, but if you study the Youtube video in more detail you can see that the steam cylinder is isolated from the Listeriod components, and what would have been the Listeriod piston, is now used as a cross head. Thus allowing the steam portion of this concoction to be double acting.

Yup, it is what is called a single (cylinder) simple steam engine. If it was a two  cylinder of same design it would be a double simple.  Add a low pressure cylinder in any one of several designs and it becomes a compound engine.

I like it. Simple if somewhat inefficient power, but in the right situation it could be a good balance of economics and local resources.

Could at least run the steam exhaust back into the bottom of the boiler water supply tank. Reclaim the heat and not require as much makeup water .

There are plans and castings available for small 3 stage yacht steam engines that are 8-10% efficiency.  I'd love to see one of those running on a home built solar boiler... but I sure like the no moving parts power of PV.
