Fuel Rack Solenoid connection Question
« on: November 28, 2017, 03:08:44 PM »
Hi All,

I have a fuel rack solenoid that I wish to mount on the Listeroid as a shutdown device.
This was an "ebay special" and came with no manual or wiring directions.
The [PLUS] and [MINUS] terminals are obvious but it also has an [aux.] connection.

Can anyone tell me what this terminal is for and whether I need to connect to it?

cheers,
Veggie

If that solenoid is the same as the Woodwards that Lister/Petter uses... there is an internal switch in the unit that allows it to pull in and stay put without burning up the hold coil. Only two connections are required, but the unit must pull ALL the way in or you will quickly burn it out. On yours the AUX may also be the hold coil, just implemented slightly differently... Look at the Woodward solenoid catalog for specifics of their product. 1502 should be model number. The Chinese copies may or may not conform to the original designs, so your results may vary.

dieselgman, thanks for that.

I downloaded the spec sheet from Woodward and all it says is...
"Auxiliary terminal available on internally switched models"
No idea what that means.
It's a mystery. I was planning to wire the thing using only the PLUS/MINUS terminals.
Hopefully that wont burn anything  :-\

I did a bit of digging in the Woodward documents (so hopefully it's the same as yours) - the AUX terminal is there to allow you to wire a bulb or relay between it and the positive terminal to indicate that the solenoid is fully operated - possibly a useful feature?

Cheers!
