History of Oil
« on: July 24, 2006, 08:38:55 PM »
To:  Anyone, we're all in this one together, IMHO.

Got 45 minutes of your valuable time?  And, a high speed connection?  Check out Robert Newman's History of Oil video.  Those Englishmen are just a barrel of laughs.  Funny, interesting, provocative:  WWI started because of invasion of Iraq by England?  Peak Oil, etc., etc.  I'd love to hear a rebuttal, even if it wasn't as funny as the original.

Excellent video, I was sorry when I got to the end.

As for rebuttal... Hard to knock the facts, unless you lie about them.

For a "History of Oil", he starts pretty late.  So the German gets off the Berlin-Baghad Railway with his chequebook.  So what?  He's right about Peak Oil and the Petro Dollar, but the British occupation of Iraq causing WWI?  Uh-uh.  Germany bought most of her oil from Rumania.  When there were discussions in WWI about trading strategic materials at the Swiss frontier the Germans offered optical equipment for nickel and rubber, not oil.
