Using my special powers of mind reading, ESP and looking out the window to see what the Cows are doing, as well as the bit where it says up the top " Asking price, $1900", my best and educated guess, weighing up all the indicators I can take into account, I'd thinking it's going to be somewhere right around... say.... $1900.  Give or take.

Put you down for one mate?

Possibly the best post on this site yet, totally vindicates my view on the sites humour.

I saw that ad  today, if I could swing afford it, it would power my barn/woodshop. :'( You know, it seems like more and more of these things are coming up for sale lately. Or is it just me?

Hi Ron

Seems there's quite a few popping up on Ebay UK as well, I'm sure there's a cycle in all things, maybe the Lister curve is at the lower end?

Land Rovers - in which I also have an interest - are near the top of their's, all the 'wise ones' are trumpeting how rare they are now that production has stopped, quite a few 50's models requiring restoration worthy of a Bugatti are being shipped over from Aus, opportunity for you, Glort?

Maybe I should be touring the UK and scooping up the Lister bargains as a hedge against the Brexit shaped hole the UK is said to be risking!

Cheers
Stef

There are LOTS of unused/barely used Listeroids around that are left over from dreams that never materialized, thats for sure. Problem is most who own them think they are worth 2-3x what the market says they are worth. Whenever i renew my CL ad I always get many offers to buy them for 3-4k LOL. I have never seen one bring over $900 at a live auction and that was a NOS  Metro 12/2. I haven't followed one on ebay for quite some time so don't know how they are doing there.

One of my friends bought an 8/1 roid (maybe a GM90?I dunno it's a lot smaller than my 8/1) and a petter type never started at an online auction here back in the summer for around $350-400 bucks each. I had to drive 500 miles to get mine! But for about the same money all told.

I NEVER cease to be amazed at the over the top and out of touch prices people ask for something.
I have been chasing used solar panels of late.  People ask literally DOUBLE  for an old panel that you can get new at twice the output.  You offer them a realistic price which is a fraction of what they are asking and they carry on about how much they cost.  Yes, but the prices of the things have fallen through the floor. The system you ( questionably) paid $25K for 8 years ago can be had at 4X the capacity for $4k now and they will give you an interest free loan on the price.  They aren't worth what they were and certainly not effectively the 4x price per watt you are asking that new, more efficient panels can be had for.

I sent a guy some links to new panel prices after he gave me a serve last week. To his credit he came back and apologized saying he could see I was right and offered me a lower price.
Unfortunately it was still about 70% of what I could have got a new and worth while more powerful panel for.
Such is life.

Listers here tend to IMHO be also over priced mainly.  There were a rush of them advertised a few weeks ago, Twins and 4's from different people.  Pretty sure you can buy a new Japanese or German engine of the same output for the same money for what a couple of them were asking for the 4's and the new ones come with warranty and a full life expectancy.  One guy is down to less than half his initial asking price but the others are just re running the ad over and over.  Seems people make up their minds something is worth what they are asking and when they don't get it after advertising for 6 months, everyone else is in the wrong for not seeing the value they do in them.

There was a CS the other day advertised not tooooo far away from me at a very fair price I thought but it was a 3.5 which really wouldn't suit my leisure activities and mucking around I'd like to do with it.
Maybe I could have Turbo'd  it and put on a bigger pump and got it over 6 HP ..... but maybe not . :0)

I am a little surprised there haven't been a lot more engines in general come on the market after the big sale we had here. One of the members bought an engine from that and has been posting about it's rebuild.
Maybe the others are all getting fixed up as well before they hit the market.

OTOH, Maybe a lot of them have been salted away yet again awaiting restoration that won't happen till the new owner passes away where they will be put up for grabs once more.

I'm new to the forum and have just started searching for a CS and can't seem to find much of anything let alone close to home in Oregon.  Where are you guys seeing them at auction?
