Promotion!
« on: April 01, 2016, 02:10:14 PM »
Hi All

Just realised I'm no longer a 'Newbie'

Can't remember the last time I had any sort of promotion or upgrade!

Thanks to all for the help, encouragement and support.

Cheers

I'm really liking this forum. I'm on a couple of other forums one connected with snooker and a VW Adi forum. The Audi forum especially went very po faced with people complaining about threads going off topic and the language filter is very strict. No humour , the snooker forum would be very dull for you American guys and pretty dull for the non snooker players worldwide!

There's little I can add to that! The argument about having a "family friendly" or "child friendly" is just so much guff. Kids young adults teenagers etc find fixing and repairing anything old school and boring. The Audi VW site seemed to be very corporate and more or less took the spirit of the forum idea away. I know a bit about VAG cars having worked on them for several years but I got bored with the Q&A style of posting.

Safety or Health & Safety please don’t get me started on this! In Ireland where I'm forced to exist the left and liberal wings of the political system have made a secular society here. Then they discovered how empty most people's lives are with no system of beliefs or raison d'etre so the petty stupid irrational rules apply to everything all in the name of their secular god "health and safety". EG. Ireland has one of the highest alcohol prices in the world, however there's a constant campaign to raise the prices even further to control people's drinking as heavy drinking is unsafe!

All these health and safety tyres are dull boring wankers that are super sensitive easily offended morons. You know the type, they ring a monotonous radio station complaining about a television programme they didn't see because there was a flash of tit 37m22s into it. Won't someone please think of the children? Like bringing the little scrotes indoors at bedtime and giving them a swift boot up the arse when they do wrong!

Me I'm a socialist, each should give according to his abilities and when he's stuck society helps him. If you don't have a job well there's plenty of public areas needs maintained, roads need repaired and of course national service should be compulsory, you'd get fuck all here for free, my wife says you need to add national before socialist when talking about me!

When it comes to water, I just tell them my water is recycled.  I participate in the oldest and largest water recycling program on the planet.  100% of my water comes from a recycled source, and 100% of my water is recycled after I use it.  Furthermore, it is mostly solar powered.

Of course, I don't tell them that my water comes from a well, that it goes into a septic tank, and evaporation eventually takes into the clouds where it rains and collects underground to be pumped back up from the well...

If you’re building a house in Ireland you need permission to drill a well if you don't have access to a public water supply.  Permission to drill is granted ONLY if you sign an agreement that you will decommission your well when public the water supply comes to your area. This makes no sense as well, pump filters etc costs at least €6,000 and public chlorinated, fluoride spiked water is very expensive, oh wait.....

In my state you are pretty much mandated to destroy all wells when you hook up to public water.  You don't have to hook up unless you want a permit for just about anything.  And those state water-right documents.  Frame them as colloquial art.

I have a mom and pop apartment house and water is supplied by "the well".  It's $8,000 to hook up to city water and yes I'd probably have to destroy the irrigation well.  What drives me crazy is the bottom apartment has pretty rough looking water - not Flint, MI but rough.  The rest of the apartments, all up stairs, aren't too bad.  And the fellow in the place next door drinks the water right out of the tap.  What is up with Unit A?

My well is 160 feet so the water is pretty clean. It's filtered at the bottom and beside the pressure vessel. There's an electronic doodah under the sink that does something or other to the water (allegedly) as it comes up to the tap. There's only a dozen houses on my road over about 3 miles and public water is treble that distance away so the chances of them actually installing pipes around here are slim. I'm not a big fan of big government! When I go into town to visit the son his water tastes chemical

Gosh, I'm agreeing with glort again.  Scary territory!

Quote
The difference in the rort is called the " Supply cost" meaning that's how much the electric companies say it costs them to supply power through their lines etc and when you are selling it back to the grid you are using their equipment.  Yeah right.
You meant to tell me the extra solar power I am generating going back into the grid to be used by my neighbors either side of me that buy 100% of their power is costing the utility .20C kwh to go next door?
Pigs arse it does!

Hawaii just walked away from sustainable power in October this same way.  And if I upgrade my existing "grid tie" it will be "Upgraded" to the new standard where they credit my account by 50% with my over production and charge me 100% of retail on power that I just generated two hours before.  Not a bad return on my investment for them.  They don't spend a dime and start making 100% profit on everything I buy back from them.  That's why the CEO and CFO make $4,000.000 before benefits.  Not making our planet more sustainable but rather making better profits for their corporation.

Oh, and if a cloud passes over my 6 KW array the power company is scrambling to recover but it when that cloud passes over their massive company owned arrays they can handle it.

Cant argue with most of that Glort.

I have been recycling for years, you pay at point of entry, scrap metal you pay buy the tonne min €60.00. You have to sort everything for the recyclers, sort bottles etc I don't really mind this what I object to is the "recycling police" the guys walking around inspecting as you recycle. Dare to put a pringles box with the cardboard section with the top and bottom on and it's like you invaded Poland. Any MDF or chipboard in the timber and it's 50 lashes and Siberia. It really is very annoying as is the guy paid to sit monitoring a bank of cameras in case anyone would try to get round their "no scavenging" policy.

Surely taking a wheel off a lawnmower or the door off a washing machine is a good thing? After all your recycling it. Apparently the greatest nonsense since Phrenology (health and safety) says that they would be liable if the lawnmower wheel suddenly decided to grow saw teeth and tun at 12,000 RPM. Balls
