My new power plant
« on: November 02, 2015, 03:19:18 AM »
I am the proud new owner of a witte  Md 12hp diesel electric power plant. I bought it at an auction on October 31 it has been sitting in a barn for 20 plus years and was said to work when set there. It came out of a prison in Florida as back up power .

Without pics it didn't happen.  ;D Yes pics are kind of tough on this board. Just upload them somewhere and put the link to their location in your post.

Oh sure, blame it on your wife.  ;) Congrats on the new acquisition.

Hey honda lee,

12 HP was the model I sought but I ran into a deal in Portland on an 8 HP model.  "One in the hand" thinking took over.  US made, 10 quart oil sump, lift pump, full pressure oil system with filter and the fuel requirement being "not crude" oil all pushed me into the Witte solution.

Photos on http://www.microcogen.info/index.php are really easy.  This site even has a "Witte diesel and gasoline engine" section.

Best wishes,

Casey

Hi all, a little up date I have both my new witte md gen set and a little single cylinder air cooled lister gen set I got for my grand son in my garage. The grandson thinks its really cool having his own lister, we had to mess with his first of course and got it running and it generates power. It will not start from the switch but starts easy with hand crank.

The witte I have cleaned the nuts out of generator, used paint brush and brushed winding and blew clean with air .it looks very good for being 80 years old. Used a wire wheel to strip paint on gen head, made a huge mess in garage so I'm using gel paint striper to get paint off engine.

I could use some info on the base that holds oil and fuel.
It has a fuel line that goes from fuel pump to in line filter and went to external fuel tank. The question is how was it routed from the the factory. There is a filter looking container next to wheel with plugs in what looks to be inlet and out let but I can't find where it went into stock fuel tank.
Also can someone explain how the oil resavoir system works?
Thanks

I started cleaning up the new witte and don't think I did myself any favors. I used a wire wheel on the generator and it cleaned right up and ready for new paint but the witte itself I used a gel paint striper several times to get through it all, but when I did it exposed all the imperfections in the casting.

I have a couple of photos that I got from somewhere, uploaded here:

There's a diagram of the fuel system that might help you a little.

Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got it from...
Witte 98RC Gas burner - Kubota D600 w/ST7.5KW head.
I'm not afraid to take anything apart.
I am sometimes afraid I'm not going to get it back together.
