I got it, now what ?
« on: September 16, 2015, 11:12:04 PM »
So, I recieved the Grainger box today with the red varnish. I thought I was
getting Glyptol but it looks like a knockoff. Probibly an
oversite on my part, never the less, it should provide
the same results.

My question is, now what ?

Do I need to remove the stator or just spray over
the inside ?

I got 2 -20 oz. spray cans.....enough, too much ?

Whats the method you guys use ?

Thanks for your time,
Gary

We usually pull the rotor to provide full access to all of the windings. One or two good coats on all of the windings and core plates is usually enough. If yours was vibrating excessively, you could look for loose or partially separated plates as well. The objective is to lock them in place and reduce the vibrations as much as possible while insulating and protecting the windings from leakage to each other or to the frame. Make sure your environment is dry and that the parts being coated are clean and completely dry. Be careful while removing and installing the rotor such that you do not scrape any windings. I would also carefully mask the slip-rings from overspray.

I can't imagine you needing even half of one can.   I'm still dubious about glyptol to cure imbalance groaning/growling, but I hope it works for you!

Thanks Gary.

I don't know if it will help but it's worth a try.
My other 7.5 and 15 kw heads are both quiet.
This sounds like the laminations are rattling.

I will get to it in the next few days and will post the results.
