Hi Gippslander, a good pictorial account of what you have achieved so far. I have an early 5hp with the 2 1/4" inch bigend, the bearing was totally devoid of white metal as the dipper on the bearing cap had broken. The previous owner rallied it a few times and said it had a bit of a knock. The white metal had melted and was plastered about the crankcase like solder. I had to have my old bearing shells re-metalled and journal ground 20 thou undersize. You are doing the right thing by replacing yours. The dipper on yours although repaired is correctly orientated. Good luck with your progress, looking forward to more photos. cheers, brenjud Qld :)
