I see you're are a newbie such as myself. What is an offset bolt? Be patient, you'll find this forum slow but very useful.

If you use the site "Search" function above you will be able to find lots of threads (posts) regarding the use of offset idler bolts. The purpose of that modification is to tighten up loose fitting valve train gearing. It basically just moves the idler gear center closer to the crankshaft pinion and cam gear for a better fit. You would want to measure clearance (gear lash) carefully before making a decision to make such a change in your engine.
