Hi All

Rudolph Diesel got the first patent accepted but a Brit by the name of Herbert Akroyd-Stuart got there first!

Akroyd-Stuart's engines were built from 26 June 1891 by Richard Hornsby and Sons as the Hornsby Akroyd Patent Oil Engine under licence and were first sold commercially on 8 July 1892. It was the first internal combustion engine to use a pressurised fuel injection system.

See Wikipedia for more details.

If Akroyd-Stuart had got his admin together we'd have all been driving 2 liter turbo 'Herberts'!!

Cheers Stef

Yes I think at the time Akroyd Stuart was running compression ignition diesel (Akroyd?) fuel engines, Rudolph was still experimenting with coal dust ::)

Just an update on those alumium homemade bigend bearing shells I described a while back..... have done 1500 hours on them now, not one hint of a problem. Had a quick look in the sump yesterday, no further wear detected, so looks like this is really a viable long term fix, for both the shells, and a damaged/worn crankpin. I would be interested if anyone has tried this themselves. I also rebuilt my old air compressor a while back, this one had run dry, also damaging the crank... so this has also had aluminium shells made, and has worked  very well too.

I have 5hp, 8 hp, 12 hp Slavia diesel engine . 12 hp is well condition its start very easy but jumping over 200 rpm, 5 hp olso jumping horizontal . I want to use your tube and bals method , could you sent some pictures please ?

When  I Accelerate 5 hp there is knocking inside engine , I think krank journal an main  bearing isnot well, I put thin aluminium blat (cigarette packet  alu paper) under shells  but still knocking , I would like to use olso aluminium  like you  in main bearing but I didnt understand well  could yousend some pictures olso? MaybeI can understand better .
Ps: if you write "mesut anilgan" , you can see my engines .

Can you get hold of Plastigauge where you are? I think that'd be the first thing I'd do, so I can see exactly how bad the bearings are, i.e. do I just need to replace them.
Cheers!
Ade.
