TL / TR engine pistons
« on: April 11, 2014, 01:45:16 AM »
Hi All
I have a few TL engines to rebuild, will TR pistons be any good (same bore) and whats the story about 3 and 4 ring pistons? when  3 ring piston used are the cylinder bore clearances reduced or are they just used in higher speed engines, any help would be great

To my knowledge all replacement pistons have been 3-ring and we always used the same book clearance values. Same unit used for both TL and TR.

Hi All
Another question about the TL/TR piston rings, will a set of rings for the four ring piston fit a three ring piston leaving out the bottom oil ring.many thanks in advance

To my knowledge, that is affirmative. These are normally supplied and sold as assemblies though. When you purchase a new piston, it comes with new rings.
