8-1 oil ring groove clearance
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:54:17 AM »
My new rings arrived and the oil ring does not fit the ring groove, the groove is clean and in good shape so I believe the ring is too wide.  The groove is approximately 0.187" as measured with calipers and so is the ring, anyone have an idea what the clearance should be?

Thanks

Are ring and piston both genuine Lister parts?

If not, there's your problem.

Piston is genuine lister, rings are not.  If i had to do over i would have gotten genuine lister on all parts.  However, i can get this one ground easily so i'd like to try that first.

Ring 102-00014 has a thickness of 0.185" +0.00" - 0.001" that is on the production drawing 60710 Sheet 1.

Hey Peter....
You didn't indicate the date of the drawing on sheet 1, or the time of day it was signed off on....

HOLY CRAP you guys are awesome with the information you come up with!!!

Thanks Peter and I agree with bschwartz,

Does the drawing have, or do you know if the 0.187" groove dimension is correct?
