OK! A Band Saw Is Not A Lister But,
« on: January 19, 2014, 05:15:34 AM »
My neighbor has a Craftsman band saw and a previous owner didn't tighten the pull correctly and it's all woppidoed out.  Where would we shop for a replacement two stage pulley.  It's a really nice tilting table unit and a shame to pitch it.

Help.

By two stage pulley, do you mean one with two diameters so that the machine can be run at two speeds?  If so, you might be able to get two pulleys placed on the shaft "face to face", if the shaft is long enough.  Surplus center has some at reasonable prices:

The bushed bore pulleys are nice but you probably can't use them in this application.

Hey, two replies.  Thanks,

The bore is 5/8.  The two poly grove pulleys are 1" and 1.75".  We've take the pulley to two machine shops to see if they could install a bushing and "No" was the response from both of them.  We've talked about making it a single speed band saw as the shaft doesn't stick out enough to put two pulleys on back to back.

What terms should I be using other than "poly grove" in my searches?

Try searching for poly "groove".  A grove is a bunch of trees; a groove is what you want in a song.

So what you need is a two grove pulley with 1"od and 1.75"od and a 5/8" bore correct?  What width belt is this 3/8 or 1/2"?

People that can spell are part of the adult conspiracy against happy childhoods.
"poly groove" it'll be.

It is a 6 groove belt which sounds like a 3/4 to me but I'll get confirmation from my neighbor.

Thanks,

If it's Craftsman, I'd got that route to get a replacement part. Not cheap but they do carry many ofl the parts for their products.

I've just requested photos and
The Sears Parts Center no longer carries this part.
I'll phone a couple of their satellite repair centers tomorrow.

People that can spell - that leaves me out.
adult - that leaves me out too, just ask my wife.
conspiracy - guilty as charged.
happy childhood - I'm still working on mine, I just need a few more large objects made of cast iron.

Out of interest, what reason did the machine shops give for refusing the work?

Were it not for a defect in geography, I'd do the machining for you.
Cheers!
