I'm not familiar with loose wide belts.  Could you explain the half twist?
AWESOME video.  Nice to see the real work these can do.

The twisted belt does three things but the primary reason is it makes the saw run the correct direction. Secondary benefits are more contact with the pulleys and it aids in tracking.

Good going Butch! It doesn't appear that 6/1 is even barely laboring while cutting that slabwood. Must have some Amish in your blood!

sawmill waste, sure wish we still had some of those around here, but almost all of the sawmills in northern New Mexico got shutdown when they quit allowing logging on Federal lands because of the endangered spotted owl.

That's pretty cool to see. On the land I grew up my neighbor has an old sawmill which his grandfather built back in the 30s. It has the same type of flat belt setup. They took the entire front end off a Fordson tractor and attached some kind of gear box w/ belt drive. Looks like it was sold for that specific purpose way back in the day. Old flathead motor still runs good. I think it would be a lot better with a Lister though.

neat , practical rig.use one similar hooked to my ford 3600. and yes with 3 guys,, a cord an hr shouldnt be any problem.a good touchup with a file,,n tightening the belt a bit should help even more. saw shouldnt loose that much speed in those type cuts without makin engine struggle some,,so theres some slippage there

happy sawin ,,first sno here today
