Hello,

Does anyone have a shaft collar for a Listeroid Powerline 10/1?

Thanks,

Jim

Several folks here have.  They're a good idea.  I had a key work its way out and get batted by a spoke as it fell.  It bounced off my chest and left a bruise.

Surpluscenter.com had them in all sizes, last I looked.

I don't know if the crankshaft is the same diameter on the 10/1 as the 6/1 but I got mine from McMastecarr.   I think they were around 8 dollars each.

As they said, should be 2" but best measure to be sure. Link provided to Surplus Center. The split type with draw bolt are my personal favorite over the simple set screw type but to each his own.

Great posts thanks.
Quinn I bet that key to the chest hurt for a little while.
I was looking at the shafts and noticed that the shaft end that is used to crank the engine by hand is the only one that does not have the collar. It appears that it is not slid in enough to accept both a collar and the hand crank. Will I damage anything if I slide the flywheel in 3/4" so that it can fit both the collar and the crank handle?
Thanks,
Jim

Yes, it hurt, but it also scared the hell out of me.  Had it hit me in the face . . .

As it happened, I had a Dr. appointment a few days later.  When the Doc saw the big purple bruise over my sternum with the divot left by the heavy end of the key just beginning to scab over, he wanted to know what caused it.

For what it's worth, several people have reported that their engines knock loudly.  My first engine did so, too, and after eliminating the usual suspects, I found that the gib keys were loose in the slot in the crankshaft and the flywheels, so the wheels were rocking back and forth, making a racket that sounds just like rod knock.  It was while I was running down the cause of the noise that the key worked out and hit me.

After I put a bandage on the wound (and changed my shorts  ::)  ) I measured the key and the slots and found there was about 0.029" clearance.  I cut some brass shims and put them in place and the problem went away.

Putting a collar on the shaft outboard of the head of the is good insurance.

Will it be ok to slide flywheel in about 3/4"?
Thanks,
Jim

As long as you have clearance between the flywheel and the engine there should be no problem at all.   How much clearance will you have if you move the flywheel in 3/4"?

Hello Carl,

There is 7/8" clearance from the flywheel to the engine bearing.
The Gibb key is sticking out 2 - 7/16" of the flywheel. On the other flywheel, the Gibb key is sticking out only 2 - 1/4". Do you think that I need to tap the Gibb key inside the flywheel a tad?

Thank you,

Jim

If that gibb key is seated it will not go in any further.  I suggest you pull the gibb key move the flywheel back a bit and then refit the gibb key.  You may need to file the gibb key to get the correct fit.  You must maintain the proper taper for the key to fit properly in the flywheel.

Here is one of several threads on fitting a gibb key.

Looks the preferred taper is 1:100
GTC 20/2 down rated to 850 rpm - ST 15
Metro 6/1 800 rpm on cart - ST 7.5
