Markon Alternator Connections
« on: May 13, 2013, 11:26:44 AM »
Can anyone put me right on this please.     A recently aquired  4 pole single phase  Markon 10 Kva generator is marked 110/55 volts on the spec plate,   there are 4 pairs of wires on the connection block connected in series.   My question is as there are 8 ends in total would this alternator be reconfigurable to 220 volts ?

Thanks in anticipation,

Mark.

The quick answer - (should be) Yes! However, please provide your model and spec details so that we can look up the actual winding configuration for your head.

Thats looking promising Gary, the alternator model no as far as I can tell is BS164S, delta connected  its fitted with a 460 AVR  and is constructed of cast iron, couldn`t see a spec no.
 Thanks,  Mark.

A friend  who works on the control gear on megawatt size power plant spent 10 minutes with a multimeter a sheet of paper and some label tape and hey presto it puts 230 volts out.  The same guy sorted the config on my 85 kva 12 wire 3 phase generator that had all the ends along with their ids  cut off.

Yes indeed, the same guy dug into an encapsulated Stamford AVR that had stopped working and replaced one of the gizmos, this is still working after 5 years.     For my part I help him out with mechanical bits and bobs.
