Help with a BKB alt
« on: January 01, 2013, 12:40:22 AM »
I have a 1939 CS 3/1 on an original Lister base plate that im restoring. The altanator that came with it is a BKB so not the original. They sit side by side and the alt was belt driven. The data plate reads AC GENERATOR,   Type CTRY,   Serial No.50497 /1,  Frame 640,    Eng DP,   Rating  CONT,   K.V.A. 2,    RPM  1500,    Volts 230,    Amps 8.7,    Hz 50,    Phase 1,   Power factor 1,

I would like to know if anyone has any information on this alt. It looks like it has done very little work as its very clean inside and the slip rings are as new. Im going to use it with the 3/1 to power the lighting in my workshop.
Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon, put up some photos of it. Some with the end covers removed would be good. Does it have the ‘top box’ and ‘remote box’ with it?

Can you put them onto Photobucket and then transfer to here?

I have loaded some pics to the Lister engine gallery but havent a clue how to get them here. I read through a post on how to put up pics but oh so complicated !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not computer savy. I have put pics up on other sites and it was so much eayser.
Why is it not possilbe to up load pics direct???
I think if you look on the Lister engine gallery under BKB 2KVA they should be there.
Simon
Ops! under my full name Simon Patterson not BKB 2KVA.

Found it. That’s a later type BKB but, unfortunately, not a Start O Matic.
The two wires coming out of the top are for the 230vac load and the voltage regulation is inside, so no top box.
Do you have any brushes and slip rings in there? I don’t see any.

Check the brushes and slip rings for free movement and good contact.
Also check there is no movement in the windings.
After that I’d run it up to 1500rpm and see what you have.
